McAlester Watercooler

PERHAPS the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not yet sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favor; a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defence of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.

call DOT since it's on a state highway.

Or do what they've done for years, let the buzzards eat it.

if you live out of the city then do what we did, if we didn't want the to see the
animal we remove it. thats the problem everyone sits around wanting someone eles
to do something. take action if you don't like things fix them.

not being smart, ac = city of McAlester not county, one foot or ten miles outside
the city limits. don't like it then move inside city limits then bit**

But ice.....I'm not being smart with you, and I do live inside the city limits. I
cannot ever, ever, ever get Animal Control to respond to serious situations. I've
scraped up dead dogs out of the street in front of my house; dead armadillos;
chased away skunks, coons, etc. But when you see someone deliberately hurt a dog
and kill it, that's AC's responsibility to make it stop. They did not. They
cannot be trusted nor depended upon.

I'm sorry for that , I guess my luck is better than most, The AC guys ( both of
them) have always came to took care of the problem around my house. I wish the city
had more money to put a couple more on so they could work later into the night.

I've seen people in the country shoot baby kittens, dogs chained in the back of
trucks, total disregard for their safety. Goes back to personal responsibility when
you have a dog or any animal for a pet. Some people are simply stupid and barbaric
when it comes to taking care of their pets.

Aye but we are paying for animal control. I can not tell you how many times a
vicious black injured Lab has been called in on over here for biting someone or
attempting to. It trapped a Dish network guy ontop of his van. When called in.. and
it was early.. the AC had already left for the day. More than half the time I call
in they dont even know if they have AC that day or not and have to ask ont he
radio. Again We are paying these guys... and if you can catch them out to do a job
and not be at the cafe on wyndotte, you can never get them to come by. My mail
carrier has called in also on that lab several times.. even told the AC where he
was sleeping.... in an abandoned lot... guess what he is still running looose here.
It comes down to who the hell is their boss and how do we get them fired and
someone competent and able to do the job?

I think one of the main issues here other than diseases caused by dead animals is
that if AC is being paid then why not work them. If there are two of them it
doesn't take a genius to figure out work one day shift and the other night shift
wow, that might just work. Weekends could be on-call for serious situations only.

About a year ago there was a dead skunk in the street in front of my house. I called
animal contro, got no response, then called the police dept. (NOT 911) and reported
it. It had been removed by the time I got home that evening. I don't know who
picked it up.

Just to make all you folks happy. I moved the dead dog off the road out by the
auction house and put it over the other side by the railroad tracks, Hope
everyone can relax now.

Countryboy, don't you know that nobody cares, look at this town & see the work done
& not done. We have people at city hall that have never earned the paycheck they
get, they don't care, why should we..streets are a poor excuse for a road, water is
undrinkable, people elect a person that signed all those thousands dollars away.
Yet they want to blast you for complaining, good for you for doing something you
shouldn't have had to do, but that's the way this town operates!

Psst I pay his salary I have the right to gripe specially when they are not
doing their job. Several depts are not.. street repairs... garbage/sanatation,
AC, etc etc etc. I know for well over 5 months we have been trying to get AC to
get this black lab. I do know it has bitten 4 people (one a child). It tears
into everyone over heres trash.. it sleeps on the vacant lot on the 400 block of
W. Monroe on the north side of the street (you know one of the ones that went
for auction and was bought by that land dept.. who is now trying to sell them
all). They know all this.... yet he/they cant catch the dog.... this is just one
incident... I had a cat in a trap so long I was feeind it and watering it so it
wouldnt die.... The old one lied said he had been by my house adn the trap was
empty... I had to talk to Shift commander... he suggested I let it go since the
AC was refusing to come by. By the way this was Don Hass who I talked to. Again
who is over these 2? Why do they get paid for 40 hours a week when aparently
they dont work that much. If the dog comes into my yard again I will just shoot
it. I do have a right to protect myself and my property. I would be doing the
dog a favor as he is injured... one of his front feet are broken.
